Dream home for families close to schools: survey
Malmö's Lilla torg has many restored homes with buildings dating from the 1590s.

Close to local preschools and schools and newly renovated rooms for each child: this what the dream home for families with children would look like, according to a study by the Association of Swedish Real Estate Agents (Mäklarsamfundet).

The study adds that it is also important that there are other children in the area. According to the survey on the housing market, 1,600 brokers across Sweden reported that newly renovated homes that are in new-looking condition are the most popular among families with children looking for a house.

"It is not particularly surprising, but amusing that they are so conscious and sensible," said Claudia Wörman, an analyst at the association. "Families with children seldom have time to renovate."

The home's location is important. It is also important for families with children that there are other children in the area, that it is child-friendly and free of traffic. In addition, ranking high on the list are strictly technical issues, such as radon concentration and heating and operating costs.

The least important factor for families with children when it comes to buying a house is communication. Time is important. Quality of life includes having a short commute to work and that children in due course can get to and from school and leisure activities easily on their own. This makes life easier for the whole family, the association observed.
