Trade surplus decreases in May
In May, Sweden's net trade surplus declined to 2.7 billion kronor ($348.59 million) from 8.1 billion the previous year, Statistics Sweden (Statistiska centralbyrån, SCB) reported on Monday.
Compared to 2009, Swedish exports of goods increased by 16 percent in value in May, while imports of goods increased by 26 percent.
Trade with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of 8.4 billion kronor, while the EU trade resulted in a deficit of 5.7 billion kronor. The number of weekdays in May was one more than in May 2009.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade surplus amounted to 4.5 billion kronor in May compared to 4.7 billion in April. The corresponding figure for March was 4.8 billion kronor.
Net trade from January to May showed a surplus of 25.4 billion kronor. During this period, the value of exports increased by 9 percent, while imports increased by 13 percent in value compared to the corresponding period one year ago.
Exports amounted to 445.7 billion kronor and imports were valued at 420.3 billion kronor, resulting in a surplus net trade balance of 25.4 billion kronor from January to May. The corresponding surplus figure for these months one year earlier was 39.3 billion kronor.
