Summer decides to show up after all
Football fans itching to watch some World Cup action outside have a reason to cheer: glorious summer weather is finally expected to arrive in Germany this weekend, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Thursday.
High-pressure system “Wendelin” will bring ample sunshine and balmy temperatures from the Atlantic, meteorologist Helmut Malewski said from the DWD headquarters in Offenbach.
“Finally a ray of hope after the rainy and often cold last few weeks,” he said. “Fortunately the great summer weather will stick around heading into next week.”
Only the Alps in southern Germany will see isolated thunder storms, while the rest of the country can expect temperatures to top out at 30 degrees Celsius by Sunday. The hottest region will likely be the Rhine Valley, the DWD said.
Thursday and Friday are forecast to be pleasant and partly cloudy, with highs up to 27 degrees in the southwest, though coastal areas will remain a bit cooler.
Saturday and Sunday will bring continued sunshine and temperature ranging between 17 and 23 degrees in the north, and between 24 and 30 in the southwest, where some short thunderstorms may occur again in the Alps.
