Superintendent Lars Hamrén confirmed that the man was collected from his home shortly after 11pm on Wednesday evening and was detained on suspicion of murder shortly before midnight.

Hamrén confirmed that a tip from the public had led the investigation to the man, who has no prior criminal record but has figured previously in the murder investigation.

"Although we had no name then," Hamrén said at a press conference at Halmstad police station on Thursday. He was accompanied by Ove Bärgman.

The woman’s body was found by two people out picking flowers in the woods near Kistinge industrial zone south of Halmstad. Police believe the woman was killed around lunch time on Saturday.

Lars Hamrén said on Saturday that it was believed that the woman had been killed at the spot where her body was found but declined to comment on the nature of her injuries or the likely cause of death.

"We believe the woman had cycled to the woods to pick flowers when this happened to her," he said.
