Police are investigating a 44-year-old woman for negligent manslaughter after her four dogs killed her niece in a horrific attack on Friday afternoon in Thuringia.

The three-year-old girl had been taken by her grandmother to visit in Sachsenburg, when the Staffordshire bull terriers suddenly turned on her.

Some reports suggest the dogs attacked as soon as the older woman and child entered the house, which they did while their owner was in the garden.

Although the 70-year-old grandmother tried to pull the dogs off the girl, they bit the child so badly she died at the scene.

The grandmother was also severely bitten in the face and arms, and was taken to hospital.

The dogs have already been destroyed, with the agreement of their owner.

An eight-week-old baby was killed in April by a Husky-Alsatian mixed-breed dog which pushed over the pram and bit the baby in the head during a garden party in Cottbus after the adults had gone inside.

It was later decided that this dog not be put down after animal experts observing it said it was behaving normally towards people and other dogs.

The baby’s parents, who own the dog, have said they would have the dog put in ‘responsible hands’. They also face investigation for possible negligent manslaughter charges.
