The company, which was saved from closure thanks to a deal with Dutch sportscar maker Spyker in February, will draw the recruits from a pool of 700 people made redundant in spring 2009. They join 150 staff members re-employed in the autumn.
“We have been negotiating over which people are going to come back. This is decided both by the number of years employed and by competence. A further 10-15 people are probably needed,” said Håkan Skött, chairman of the Saab branch of the Metall trade union.
The rehired workers will start work on 14th June, when the factory plans to increase production to 39 cars per hour, compared to 28 cars per hour at the moment.
In addition to the production workers, a further 50 white-collar workers have been taken on since Spkyer took over. A further 100 office staff are needed, the company says.
“We’re hoping that we will eventually be able to go up to two shifts,” said Skött, who added that he believed it would be difficult to achieve the company’s planned levels of production with only one shift.
