Jönköping district court handed out short jail sentences on Tuesday to the majority of the eleven people linked to the discovery late last year of a vast illegal liquor enterprise in the area. The three leading lights behind the 'forest star' business received the longest jail terms, ranging from two to three years.

A 60-year-old man from Nässjö who sold 10,000 litres of home-made liquor was handed a three-year sentence as well as being ordered to pay the state almost half a million kronor ($70,000) in compensation.

A local motorcycle gang leader was found guilty of buying and selling the secret spirits, while a third person was convicted for heading up the network's clandestine distillery.

The multi-million kronor enterprise was well established in both the Halland and Småland provinces.
