The balmy weekend weather is set to end on Monday as a Scandinavian cold front moves in with cooler temperatures, the German Weather Service (DWD) reported.

The low-pressure system “Philomena” means temperatures will be “significantly cooler” but dry on Monday, meteorologist Christoph Hartmann said in a statement. Highs will range between nine degrees Celsius on the northern coast and 20 degrees in the south.

Overnight some areas could see frost as temperatures drop as low as freezing thanks to clear skies in the north, Hartmann said.

But on Tuesday southern regions, the Alps and the northern coast could see isolated showers in the afternoon. The rest of the country will stay cloudy, but dry with temperatures between 10 degrees in the north and 18 degrees in the southwest.

Wednesday will also be cloudy with showers in the north and highs between nine and 16 degrees in the Upper Rhine region.

But the rain on both Tuesday and Wednesday will not be enough to wash the volcanic ash currently crippling air traffic from the atmosphere, though, Hartmann said.
