Warm weather won't last
The sunny weather that graced Germany in recent days was unfortunately short-lived, meteorologists at the German Weather Service (DWD) reported on Friday.
Weekend weather is expected to be rainy and cool, with possible snow in mountainous regions.
“In the high altitudes of the mountains there will even be a winter intermezzo, because the incoming cold front will lower the snowfall line to between 800 and 1,000 metres,” DWD meteorologist Thomas Ruppert said in a statement.
On Friday, western regions can already expect variable weather with cloud cover and rain showers that may develop into thunder storms as temperatures cool to between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius. The weather in the east and southeast will remain friendly, with temperatures topping out at highs of 20 degrees.
However, heavy rainfall is expected overnight in the east and southeast overnight though, with isolated thunderstorms. In the Alps snow could fall even in valleys, Ruppert said.
Chilly temperatures will continue into Saturday morning with highs between eight and 13 degrees, and showers are expected in the southeast.
Temperatures will remain much the same on Sunday, with more accompanying rain and a brisk wind, Ruppert added.
