Sweden Democrats in decline: poll
The far-right Sweden Democrats have fallen below the four percent threshold required for seats in parliament at a general election, a new voter survey by Synovate shows.
The Sweden Democrats' decline from 5.6 percent to 3.6 percent is deemed statistically significant.
The left-green parties retained their lead in the polls and would claim a majority of parliamentary seats if an election were held today.
The opposition coalition claimed a combined 49.1 percent of the voter support, with the Alliance government parties polling 44.5 percent. The gulf between the blocs has declined since February - from 6.6 to 4.6 percentage points.
The Green Party received their highest level of support for 14 years with 10.2 percent.
The Social Democrats polled only 33.7 percent however and once again came in under the record low showing in the 2006 general election. The Left Party claimed 5.2 percent in the poll.
On the Alliance side there were only small changes with the Moderate Party on 27.5 percent, Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) on 7.2 percent, Centre Party on 5.1 percent and the Christian Democrats on 4.6 percent.
Synovate interviewed 2,699 people aged above 18 from March 8-24th and asked the question: If a parliamentary election were held today, which party would you vote for?
The poll was published in the Dagens Nyheter and Sydsvenskan dailies.
