Bicycle thieves pedal off with Malmö art work
A bronze sculpture worth some 136,000 kronor ($19,000) was stolen from an art gallery in Malmö on Wednesday evening.
According to witnesses, two men smashed a window at the gallery on Stora Nygatan in central Malmö, grabbed the sculpture and fled the scene on their bikes.
Police now fear the bronze sculpture by the French artist Armand Pierre Fernandez may be sold to a scrap dealer and melted down.
According to the gallery's homepage, Fernandez's piece is entitled "Ashes of Paganini" and weighs between eight and ten kilogrammes.
