German bobsledder Lange takes fourth career gold
Germany 1 pilot Andre Lange won his fourth Olympic bobsleigh gold medal Sunday after seeing off Germany 2 and Russia 1 in the two-man event at Whistler Sliding Centre.
Lange and brakeman Kevin Kuske dominated the proceedings, just as they had on Saturday, and timed a total 3minutes and 26.65seconds over their four runs to see off Germany 2 sledders Thomas Florschütz and Richard Adjei's by 0.22 seconds.
Russia 1, piloted by Alexsandr Zubkov, won bronze at 0.86 seconds.
Lange won both the two and four-man bobsleigh golds in Turin four years ago as well as the four-man event in 2002 and was able to once again stylishly brush aside the competition.
He had been on pole after Saturday's opening two runs and despite four teams crashing on the first day he and Kuske kept up the relentless pressure.
On the final run, their initial 0.16-second lead grew to 0.21seconds at the midway point and they added an extra hundredth of a second to underline their superiority.
