Indira Weis, 2001 winner of the German casting show Popstars and former member of pop group Bro'Sis, was arrested in Miami on Saturday after being accused of trying to work in the United States without a visa.

Angered by her treatment by US police authorities, Weis told the Bild newspaper that she had been accused of lying upon her arrival. "The officers said I wanted to work for a German TV channel without a permit," she said. "But I just wanted to have a nice week at a friend's place in Miami."

Weis was forced to spend Saturday night in a police cell, before being put on a Lufthansa flight back to Germany on Sunday. "My nerves were shattered by the end of it. I was just crying all the time," she said.

"The treated me like a criminal. All my cell had was a bed, a sink and a toilet. I was only allowed to take my toothbrush in with me." But Weis also smuggled in her mobile phone in her underpants and took pictures of her cell.

Weis has already hired a lawyer to fight the accusations. "I'm not going to let the Americans treat me like that," she warned.

Weis won the 2001 edition of the casting show Popstars and thereby became the last contestant to join the pop group Bro'Sis. She split from the group in 2004 to pursue a solo career and also appeared as an actor in various TV drama series. She is currently planning a pop comeback.
