Calm weather expected for Christmas Day
A yuletide calm settled over Sweden on Christmas Eve, both on the roads and in the skies, with only a few accidents reported on Christmas Eve afternoon.
One incident on Wednesday night outside of Falkenberg in western Sweden involved three individuals, all of whom were transported to hospital. According to police, the driver was in a serious but not life-threatening condition.
Around noon, two cars crashed just north of Höör in Skåne and one of the drivers was taken to the hospital. The extent of the injuries was unknown as of Thursday afternoon.
“It has been calm for those few who are out on the roads,” Peter Hultqvist, commander on duty for the Gävle police, told TT news agency.
The weather remained mild throughout most of the country. There was light snowfall over Jämtland in the west and Norrbotten and sections of the Västerbotten coast in the north.
SMHI meteorological agency has forecast snow fall in central and northern Götaland and southern Svealand on Christmas Day. Up to 10 centimetres of new snow are expected as the storm front moves over the region during Christmas afternoon and evening.
The snowfall is expected to abate somewhat as it continues north to Norrland.
