Christmas Day is likely to be wet and windy throughout the country, the German weather service reported Thursday. Only southern Bavaria can hope for snowfall later in the day.

There are stormy conditions in store for Germany on Christmas Day, according to the national weather service. Rainfall is expected to spread through the country from the northwest throughout the day, with snow only expected in southern Bavaria towards evening. Temperatures will linger between 0 and 7 degrees Celsius.

But snow is expected in more of the south in the night before Boxing Day, and precipitation, including snowfall, can be expected in the east as well. The skies will clear in parts of western Germany throughout December 26, though foggy conditions can be expected in individual areas.

Sunday will be mainly dry, though it may get cloudier in the west as the day progresses, and there is a chance of rain, sleet and snow in much of the country.

Temperatures will remain steady at just above freezing in the first days of after the Christmas holiday, but the weather will become noticeably milder next week, before dipping again around the New Year.
