Safety concerns have prompted flatpack furniture giant Ikea to announce a global recalled of 5,474 high chairs.

"We have had a problem with the snap locks (where) the seat has come loose and dropped down through the frame, which is of course a security risk," Ikea Sweden spokeswoman Ylva Magnusson told AFP.

There have been 5,474 high chairs of the model sold globally and France was the biggest market for the product, with 900 chairs sold there, Magnusson said.

The recall applies as of Tuesday in all markets where the chair was sold.

It was launched following 11 incident reports received from customers.

"As soon as we started to get the incident reports, we decided to stop selling the product," Magnusson said.

The Leopard high chair went on sale worldwide in October.
