White Christmas in store for Sweden

Those who have asked Santa for a white Christmas might see their wish come true on Christmas Eve. Sweden has remained covered in snow, although the snowfall is expected to let up in many parts of Sweden – with a chance of sun.

Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to remain below zero Celcius, with snow in Götaland in southern Sweden, which is expected to receive up to 10 centimetres. Snowfall is also expected in central Norrland in the northern parts of the country and in southern and eastern Svealand in central Sweden.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to freezing in Stockholm and Södermanland in eastern Sweden. While the island of Gotland may receive temperatures slightly above freezing, for the most part temperatures are expected to remain below zero.

Most of the country will continue to experience snow flurries, with a few local exceptions and the country can look forward to a white Christmas Eve.

West coast areas, along with Skåne and Blekinge in the south and the islands of Öland and Gotland off the east coast might see warmer temperatures – with the snow remaining on the ground.

These regions are expected to experience cloudy weather with a chance of sun. Stockholm and Norrland may also see a hint of sun on Christmas Eve.

Snowfall is expected in western Sweden on Christmas Day, moving up to south eastern Svealand in the central part of the country in the evening. Negative temperatures are expected again on December 26th, with the exception of Gotland, which is likely to remain slightly warmer.
