According to Schavan, plans include a legal requirement for employers to conduct a procedural review of training and educational certifications earned abroad.
The measure is aimed at easing a shortage of skilled employees expected to get worse within the next three years, Schavan said.
It is unacceptable that such workers “live in Germany, but can’t work here because they earned their degree abroad,” she told the paper.
“The nurse or mechanic from abroad should have better chances to work here,” she went on. “This counters the threatening labour shortage and works towards better integration.”
