Burger baron to buy Stockholm's priciest flat
Curt Bergfors, the founder of Swedish fast food chain Max, has lined up the purchase of the most expensive apartment ever built in Sweden, a piece of property set to leave him with a 52 million kronor ($7.6 million) hole in his pocket.
Bergfors, 60, is primed to swoop for a brand new luxury apartment in Stockholm's well-heeled Östermalm district, business magazine Affärsvärlden reports.
But the transaction is contingent on the hamburger guru selling his 347 square metre apartment home at nearby Sturegatan, a deal expected to swell his coffers by 25 million kronor.
"I haven't sold the old one yet and it all hinges on me getting the price I'm asking for it, which is part of the agreement," Bergfors told Affärsvärlden.
Neither Bergfors nor property mogul Sven-Olof Johansson, head of the Fastpartner property management company, would comment further on the latter's new development in Stockholm's wealthiest district.
Bergfors established the Max brand in 1968 and headed up the company with great success before handing over the reins recently to his two sons, Richard and Christoffer, though he remains active in the company as chairman if the board.
Last year the company had a turnover in excess of one billion kronor. With 67 outlets nationwide, the firm employs around 2,500 people.
