Nearly all young Swedes surf the web daily: study
Virtually every Swede between the ages of 16- and 30-years-old uses the internet on a daily basis, a new report shows.
According to figures from the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS), 99 percent of young Swedes make a habit of getting online every day, up from 89 percent a year ago.
And Sweden’s over-30 crowd is by no means averse to surfing the web, 78 percent of the entire population report getting online at least once a day.
In addition, 89 percent of Swedes report having internet access at home, a level unchanged from last year.
Sweden’s young people are also at the forefront when it comes to sending text messages and using mobile broadband services, the PTS study shows.
On average, Swedes send ten text messages per day, while youth between 16- and 20-years-old send an average of 20 or more.
Overall mobile broadband penetration in Sweden has increased from seven to eleven percent over the last year, while 16 percent of 20-somethings use dongles rather than cables to get online.
In addition, fixed telephony is falling out of favour with Swedes, as the number of homes without fixed lines has increased from ten to 15 percent, with young people accounting for the bulk of the increase, according to PTS.
