Bankrupt mail-order giant Quelle is to have “Germany’s biggest clearance sale” starting Sunday, with 18 million items of merchandise ranging from clothing to electrical appliances being sold at up to 30 percent off.

The firm, which went into liquidation earlier this month, will sell all its remaining goods through its revamped website, phone customer centre and stores, insolvency administrator Jörg Nerlich announced on Friday.

The discounts are available on the website from 6 am Sunday, November 1.

Women’s, men’s and children’s clothes, underwear, linen, jewellery, sports gear and shoes are all marked down 30 percent.

Furniture and home textiles (such as rugs and curtains) are 20 percent cheaper. Electrical goods will be discounted by 10 percent. All goods will be sold as long as stocks lasted, Nerlich said.

However deferred payments, which were previously the firm’s standard practice, will no longer be offered.

The total number of goods fills some 1,000 trucks.

Meanwhile 7,000 employees of the firm, established in 1927, are to be laid off.
