The Svea Court of Appeal confirmed the sentence for the 23-year-old who was convicted for attempted murder and aggravated assault, despite reservations held by one of the judges that the evidence did not conclusively render the man responsible.

The 23-year-old had been refused entry to the casino shortly before the shooting.

He returned three hours later clad in a mask and released shots into the entrance. One security guard and two guests were hit by gunfire but none were seriously injured.

One of the grounds for the man's appeal was that he was so drunk at the time that he could hardly have committed the offence.

In interviews with an employee at the casino it emerged that up to 75 people are refused entry into the premises every evening. Any one of them could have been motivated to seek revenge, the man claimed.

The appeals court rejected all objections raised and also confirmed that the man should pay a total of 436,665 kronor ($63,182) in damages to the victims of the shooting.
