Widespread sun forecast for Sunday's vote

There will be no weather excuse for voters not to visit their polling stations on Sunday, as forecasters predict widespread sun throughout the country on election day.

High pressure system “Sabine” will assure mild autumn weather over the next few days, the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Thursday. However, over the course of the coming week the high-pressure will weaken and Polar sea breezes will bring unsettled and chillier weather.

On Friday, except for fog in some places, large parts of the country will be sunshiny with brief cloudy spells. Only the area between the Danube River and the Alps will be subject to heavy clouds, with some showers. Heavy clouds will also intermittently cover the northern coast of the country, but no rain is expected. Temperatures are expected to top out at between 15 to 20 degrees Celsius.

On Friday night into Saturday morning the sky is expected to clear, with localised clouds. Air temperature will drop to between 11 and 5 degrees. Meanwhile clear skies might bring a light frost.

Saturday is expected to be a mild, typical early autumn day. It will mainly be sunny or slightly overcast. Along the coast in the Northeast, as well as in the direction of the Alps it will be partly cloudy, but dry. Temperatures should climb to between 17 and 23 degrees.

On Sunday, however, there will be widespread sun. Regional fog or high fog will dissipate by noon. Temperatures are expected to peak at between 17 and 23 degrees.
