Alela Diane has risen to be one of the leading young stars of the alternative folk scene over the past few years.

Raised in northern California's Nevada City, she made it big when Rough Trade placed her album "The Pirate's Gospel" at the very top of their prestigious Album of the Year list in 2007.

Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival

The Stockholm Beer and Whisky Festival continues this weekend.

The Stockholm event is the biggest whisky festival in the world and one of the biggest beer fests, here returning for its 18th consecutive year.

The event is located in Nacka Strand, easily reached from the water by ferries operated by Waxholmsbolaget

Lars Bethke & Peder Bjurman - Enter Numan at the House of Dance

Stockholm derby - AIK v Djurgården

The wildly different fortunes of Solna's AIK, who lead the Swedish top flight, and Djurgården, who are in serious danger of relegation, will be on show at Råsunda Stadium on Monday.

Stockholm derbies are passionate, noisy affairs and this one has all the potential of a real footballing classic.

Dalí Dalí featuring Francesco Vezzoli

Salvador Dalí (1904–1989) is one of the most popular artists of the 20th century. This exhibition experiments with the exhibition format itself by incorporating a contemporary artist, Italian Francesco Vezzoli (b. 1971), with the aim of highlighting Dalí’s oeuvre in a contemporary context, and understanding Vezzoli from a historical perspective.

GOTHENBURG

Gothenburg Book Fair

The Book Fair is a four day long literary festival. The many stages and over 900 exhibitor stands host meetings between writers, Nobel Prize winners, publishers and book lovers who explore the power of the written word together.

The 25th annual Book Fair will run from the 24th-27th September this year. Spain and Spanish language literature are in focus in 2009. World renowned writers such as Isabel Allende, Bernardo Atxaga, Javier Marías, Rosa Montero and many others will highlight where Spanish and Latin American literature stand today.

ISCM World New Music Days

ISCM World New Music Days is a large international festival with a focus on new contemporary music and sound art. Composers from around the globe have sent in works to the festival which unites musicians from all corners of the world in three locations across Sweden - Visby, Växjö and Gothenburg.

Appris par corps (Un loup pour l'homme)

French new-circus group Appris par corps bring their brand of acrobatic art to Pustervik on Wednesday.

The work depicts two men united in the struggle, hope and interdependency as well as physically by two shirts tied together. Strong, sensual and incredibly beautiful.

Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art

The fifth Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art continues this week at venues across the city.

This year’s theme is "What a Wonderful World," and is curated by Celia Prado and Johan Pousette, and presents works by 17 artists from different parts of the world.

MALMÖ

Ane Brun (NO)

Norwegian singer-songwriter Ane Brun brings her brand of country and blues-inspired ballads to Malmö's Babel on Friday.

Brun has scored a series of successes since moving to Stockholm nine years ago. Her latest album "Changing of the Seasons" further established her burgeoning reputation in Scandinavia and abroad.

Tom Jones (UK)

Welsh crooner Tom Jones completes his hip-shaking tour of Sweden with a gig in Malmö on Saturday.

The man from the valleys is a legend in his own chest hair and no doubt well worth the trek out to Hyllie for a slice of hip-shaking nostalgia.
