Sahlin keen to raise taxes

The opposition Social Democrats are preparing to raise taxes if elected next year in a bid to save jobs, and raise the quality of schools and health care, according to an article by party leader Mona Sahlin and economic affairs spokesman Thomas Östros in Wednesday's edition of Dagens Nyheter.
The party, Sweden's largest, aims to increase takes for those earning more than one million kronor ($142,000) a year, while also taxing houses with a market value of more than six million kronor.
In its shadow budget, set to be presented next month, the party also plans to reintroduce the wealth tax abolished by the sitting government.
The Social Democrats rejected any suggestion that they would lower taxes for any income groups.
