Eriksson enjoys dream start at Notts County

Former England coach Sven Goran Eriksson enjoyed a dream start to his new role as Notts County's director of football as the League Two side thrashed Bradford 5-0 on Saturday.

Eriksson joined County, the world's oldest league team, after being approached by a consortium of Middle East-based businessmen, who are reportedly paying him two million pounds a year to oversee the club's rise from English football's bottom tier to the Championship within five seasons.

The former Lazio and Manchester City boss isn't in charge of first team affairs - that task is still with manager Ian McParland - but the Swede's presence inspired a five-star display in his first competitive match at Meadow Lane.

With Eriksson watching from the stands, County debutant Lee Hughes scored a hat-trick, while fellow new-boys Ben Davies and Brendan Moloney also got on

the scoresheet as Bradford were swept aside.

"It was a treat to watch, an absolute treat and it has been a fantastic day," McParland said.

"We have to maintain those standards now, and if we do that I think we will be OK."

"We can't get carried away with this result and I hope the fans don't expect that type of result every week. I've told the players and staff to enjoy the moment, and I hope the fans do too."
