Police are investigating the identity of the person who stashed the cash, which amounts to at least 100,000 kronor ($14,000), reported the Smålandsposten newspaper.

In July, berry pickers discovered the money and subsequently turned it over to the police. The stash would have likely remained hidden had it not been dug up by an animal.

A police investigator is now trying to discover the origin of the money. Evidence at the scene indicates it might have come from a home robbery, either one that hasn't been reported or one that occurred outside of the municipality.

Police do not want to reveal the amount of money discovered by the berry pickers, but said it is a six-figure sum. They have asked the general public to contact them with any leads as to the rightful owner of the money.
