The first interrogations were held on Thursday afternoon. “My client denies the accusations. But I can't reveal the details of his statements,” lawyer Jörgen Malmunger told TT.

The relative was taken into custody around 8pm on Wednesday. According to police, information and discoveries that came forth at the crime scene led the prosecutor to order the arrest. But the evidence has not yet been presented to the defence.

“That is up to the prosecutor. I don't have access to the evidence prior to the custody hearing,” Malmunger said.

On Monday night, the 19-year-old woman had been gone for almost a day when her parents reported her missing to police. But before the police had arrived at the family’s farm, one of the family member’s found her dead in one of the buildings on the property.

“We became suspicious of the individual during the interrogations yesterday,” prosecutor Bengt Åsbäck told TT.

Åsbäck gave few details about what had come forth during the interview. “Nothing has come out that has changed the direction of the case, I can't say any more than that.”

Åsbäck declined to comment on whether a motive has been established, or if a murder weapon or other significant discoveries had been found.

On Friday he is expected to make a recommendation on whether the suspect should be remanded.
