The suspect was taken in late on Wednesday evening in an arrest described as calm by police.

"Following questioning and finds made at the site, the prosecutor adjudged that suspicions against the person were strong enough to warrant a decision to arrest the family member," police spokesman Lars Håkan Lindholm told news agency TT.

The young woman had been gone for almost a day when her parents reported her missing to police on Monday night. But before the police had arrived at the family’s farm outside of Sjöbo, one of her family member’s found her dead in one of the buildings on the property.

Police have now ascertained how and where the 19-year-old from Sjöbo was murdered and are convinced that she was murdered on the farm.

“The crime scene is somewhere in the area blocked off. We have made several forensic discoveries but do not want to release any details,” Lindholm said on Wednesday.

The woman’s body showed clear signs of external trauma. Together with the forensics, police have a clear idea of how she died.

They have remained silent on the matter and have not revealed whether or not a murder weapon has been found.

The investigation has focused on interviews with people in the woman’s immediate surroundings – family, friends, neighbours – as well as tracing her steps.

“Based on what we have found out thus far, she was an honest and well-liked girl. She has never been in trouble with the police and we haven’t discovered any threats against her,” Lindholm said on Wednesday.
