STOCKHOLM

Stockholm Pride 2009

Yes it is that time of year again - when the sober Stockholm streets are turned into a kaleidoscope of the rainbow in a celebration of the city's LGBT communities.

This year's theme is "hetero" with a focus on how heteronormativity impacts on the daily lives of homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender people.

Music, debate, speeches, demonstrations, seminars and whole lotta partying are what's on offer as the festival reaches its traditional climax with the Pride Parade on Saturday.

Price: 700 kronor for the week

Time: Monday July 27th - Sunday August 2nd

Location: Pride Park, Tantolunden; Pride House, Kulturhuset & venues across the city

Stockholm Rugby Tens

The annual Stockholm Tens rugby tournament is on this weekend. Two full days of fast paced, international rugby are on offer with 56 teams participating.

Hosted by the Exiles RFC local teams include Attila, Hammarby and Enköping as well as visiting teams from England, Ireland, Wales, Norway, France, Germany and the United States.

Full catering, and as you would expect, a licensed bar, at the ground.

Price: 60 kronor (free for the under 20s)

Time: Friday July 24th - Sunday July 26th

Location: Årstafältet, Rugby Center, Östbergavägen.

Emil Jensen

If there is one thing you do this week, go see Emil Jensen and his band play in the Pride Park.

Emil Jensen won the hearts of an adoring public last summer after touring last summer with Lars Winnerbäck and Miss Li. He is political, he is witty, he is engagingly talented.

A mix of spoken word, comedy, music and little of whatever takes his fancy.

Price: 300 kronor (full day entry to Pride Park)

Notti italiane - 1950-1990 Fashion for the world's style icons

Hallwylska museum presents an exhibition of 60 original creations from leading Italian fashion designers - Armani, Versace, Capucci and Valentino are all represented.

The dresses on show have been worn by the like of Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Hallwyska and the Italian cultural institute.

Price: 70 kronor

Eritrean Festival

The Eritrean National Holidays Organizing Committee in Stockholm, or more commonly known as Awahahadit Shimagele Hagerawi Beealat, is proud to present the annual Eritrean Festival.

This year's festival will feature Yohannes Tikabo (Wedi Tikabo), Idrisay Ismail, Yonas Menghistu and Teklemichael Ghebru (Wedi Ghebru).

GOTHENBURG

U2 (IE)

The four year wait is finally over - Bono and his legendary band U2 come to Gothenburg for two concerts at Ullevi this weekend.

Among those joining U2 on their 360° Tour will be Glasvegas, Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol och Black Eyed Peas.

Music on a summer's eve

Spectacularly located Masthuggs church invites you to join them for "Music on a summer's eve" every Thursday in the month of August.

To launch the concerts an international renowned organist and the UK most influential organ teacher will be in town to tune up your senses.

The panoramic view from Masthugget is worth the wander up the hill in itself.

African Way Café presents Beach party

The charming African Way Café on Östraförstadsgatan is organizing a "Surprise Beach Party down at Ribersborg on Saturday.

Now that it is no longer a surprise I can tell you that DJ Jah, DJ Josy and DJ Nestor will be bringing you the sounds of Africa in the shape of West African Voodoo, JuJu, Makosa, Dance hall, ragga and a whole lot more.
