Woman admits killing 81-year-old mother
A 60-year-old woman from central Sweden was arrested and remanded in custody on Wednesday after confessing to killing her mother.
“The daughter has confessed that she was the one who took her mother's life,” Lars Magnusson, the woman's attorney, told the Aftonbladet newspaper.
Police received a call about around 2.45am on Wednesday morning. Upon arriving at the house, located in a small town in western Värmland in central Sweden, police found the 60-year-old woman alone in the house with her dead mother.
The daughter was arrested without incident.
“It was the daughter herself who called police. But I don't know if the mother was still alive then or was already dead,” said Magnusson.
According to Aftonbladet, the 60-year-old's sister is a prominent local politician.
While in police custody on Wednesday, the woman admitted that she had killed her mother, but police are remaining tight-lipped about how and why the 81-year-old mother was murdered.
The 60-year-old's lawyer told Aftonbladet that his client was suffering from mental problems and will likely undergo a psychological evaluation.
The woman is scheduled to have a remand hearing on Thursday.
