The paper reported on Monday that Schäfer became involved in a scuffle early Sunday morning after an unidentified young man insulted him at a venue called The Club in the eastern German city.

He was then beat several times by two beer bottles, which caused two serious cuts including one on the back of his head two to three centimetres long.

“Gustav was admitted to the hospital emergency room around 4:30 am,” the band’s manager David Jost told the paper. “The wound on his head required immediate stitches.”

The drummer has decided to press charges against his unidentified assailants.
