Injury could sideline Sweden's Klüft from worlds

Swedish track and field star Carolina Klüft may not be able to compete in next month's world athletics championships in Berlin, her coach said on Tuesday.

The former Olympic heptathlon champion Carolina Klüft is now doubtful for the world championships after injuring her thigh competing in a long jump event at Karlskrona in her native Sweden, her coach told AFP.

"Her foot slipped during her second attempt and she slightly injured her thigh," said coach Agne Bergwall, adding that the athlete would undergo a scan later this week.

It is uncertain for how long the 26-year-old, who already suffered a niggling thigh problem during the Golden League meeting in Oslo last week, will be sidelined.

Klüft won three world titles and the 2004 Olympic gold in the heptathlon, but now concentrates on the long jump.

The world championships take place in Berlin from August 15-23.
