Train hits 'bloody doll' in unscheduled stop
When the driver of a train traveling through central Sweden saw what he thought might be a bloodied body lying across the tracks, he slammed on the emergency brakes. But it was too late.
Police and an ambulance were called shortly after 10.30pm on Wednesday night in response to the unscheduled stop, which took place as the train approached Karlstad, the Nya Wermlands-Tidningen newspaper reports.
Upon arriving on the scene, however, emergency crews were able to quell the train driver’s angst.
He had not run over a body after all.
“Someone had rigged up a doll made of polystyrene foam board and blue overalls,” emergency worker Jan Thor told the newspaper.
The makeshift doll had then been splattered with ketchup.
“An unbelievably distasteful joke on the train driver,” said Thor.
Värmland police spokesperson Per Ström told the TT news agency the matter had been classified as an act of sabotage.
