Man sentenced to eight years for child rape
A 42-year-old man from Skåne in southern Sweden was sentenced on Wednesday to eight years in prison for child rape and other crimes.
The man was also ordered to pay roughly 500,000 kronor ($63,000) in damages to the victims, the Helsingborgs Dagblad newspaper reports.
The 42-year-old was convicted for the rape and sexual molestation of an 18-year-old girl as well as the aggravated rape and sexual molestation of her 13-year-old sister.
The man was also convicted on three other counts of rape or attempted rape involving a girl who was 14-years-old at the time and lived near the 42-year-old.
The man had been in custody since March, although the first reports of his attempted rape came from the 14-year-old in 2005.
He was also charged with attempting to rape a 10-year-old boy, but escaped conviction on the charge after the court ruled it was a case of sexual molestation rather than attempted rape and the statue of limitations on the latter crime had already passed.
During the trial, the 42-year-old admitted to having a sexual encounter with the 18-year-old girl, but denied any criminal wrongdoing.
