Where the action is...

Where the action is being held for the second time this Friday and Saturday. Same location as last year, by Stora Skuggan on Djurgården, and with a line up headed by Neil Young & His Electric Band and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

The Pixies, Jenny Wilson, The Magic Numbers, Joshua Radin and The Pretenders are just some of the delights on offer for the festival music fan.

Antichrist - Lars von Trier

Danish director Lars von Trier is back with his latest controversial film, "Antichrist" starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and William Defoe.

Von Trier's harrowing film divided emotions at the recent Cannes Film Festival; Zita is a wonderful little cinema in which to sit comfortably and judge for yourself.

Lars Forsell is alive and well in the park ikväll

On Saturday Albin Flinkas and Fredrik Meyer renew their tribute to Lars Forssell, the famous Swedish author, songwriter and member of the prestigious Swedish Academy.

A poetic concert with two pianos and (formerly) secret guests - Sarah Dawn Finer and Arja Saijonmaa. In the park, in the open, totally free of charge.

Ikea at Liljevalchs

A major exhibition about the global behemoth of a company that has furnished, well, the world.

Billy, Ivar and many of the contemporary and bygone favourites will be on show for those interested in quintessentially Swedish interior design.

Volvo Ocean Race 09 - Stockholm Stopover

The gruelling Volvo Ocean Race 09 is nearing its destination of Saint Petersburg after nine months sailing the oceans of the world.

Stockholm is the destination for the next stopover and over half a million people are expected to attend the "Race Village" over the 11 day yachting event.

Music, yacht racing and much more are on offer in the village on Skeppsbron and in Kungsträdgården.

GOTHENBURG

Uefa European U-21 Championship

The west coast towns of Malmö, Helsingborg, Halmstad and Gothenburg host Uefa's flagship tournament for the stars of the (near) future - Euro 2009 U-21.

The football festivities kick off with England against Finland in Halmstad on Monday June 15th.

The tournament line up is completed by Spain, Germany, Belarus, Sweden, Italy and Serbia. The final will be held on Monday June 29th in Malmö.

Timbuktu at Liseberg

Scanian hip-hop artist Timbuktu is one of the best Swedish live acts around. Liseberg is the pride of Sweden's second city.

A dose of peace, love and hip hop beats combined with a roller-coaster or two and some candy floss - there are worse ways to spend a day out with (or without) the family.

Gothenburg Beer Festival 2009

The Gothenburg Beer Festival continues this weekend and promises to get those taste buds hopping.

The fest is an intimate and friendly festival for trade folk and beer lovers alike and typically offers a range of beers from a variety of brewers at home and abroad.

"Sommarscen Malmö" is the city's summer parks program of free arts and culture events.

This year's programme gets going with the Malmö ballads of Mikael Wiehe, Emil Jensen, Miriam Aïda and others; variety with MadliP and Congolese electronica.

Orchestra Baobab (Senegal)

Orchestra Baobab are one of the most well known groups to come out of the musical riches of West Africa.

The group mix Latino pop and Cuban rhythms in a style that has become known as Mbalax.

South Africa at Malmö Museum

"To be free is not merely

To cast off one's chains

But to live in a way that respects

And enhances the freedom of others"

June 6th marks the beginning of a year of exhibitions and events on the theme of South Africa. Nelson Mandela and his life, the fight for freedom and democracy, as well as Sweden's involvement in the struggle against apartheid.

The exhibition is produced by the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and presents stories of democracy and human rights, that hold relevance today, and for our future.

Price: 40 kronor, (10 kronor for under 15s, free for under 6s)
