Police suspect the fire was deliberately set.

According to the fire department, between 20 and 25 boats were stored in the warehouse at the time of the blaze, which police believe may be a case of arson.

“The fire clearly began with an explosion,” said police spokesperson Thomas Fuxborg to the TT news agency.

Fire fighters first received a call about the fire shortly after 1.30am. By 7am, the fire was judged to be under control, but by then the building was totally destroyed.

“About 20,000 cubic metres has burned,” emergency services chief of staff Stefan Rahm told TT.

Around 50 firefighters worked throughout the morning to battle the blaze, doing their best to remove boats from the building to save them from the flames.

“There has been a lot of effort put into saving the boats,” said Rahm.

The building was described by emergency crews as a group of seven connected warehouses. It remains unclear exactly how many boats may have been destroyed in the fire.

No people are thought to have been in the warehouse when the fire broke out and there are no reports of any injuries in connection with the blaze.
