Sweden requests return of 'emaciated' jailed socialite

Sweden has requested the repatriation of a 24-year-old woman jailed for four years in 2008 for plotting to kill witnesses in her boyfriend's drugs trial, as fears for her health mount.

Sweden-born Charlotte Lindström who prior to her conviction was a regular on the society pages of Sydney newspapers, was sentenced to three years and 10 months in jail in March 2008 after pleading guilty to charges of plotting to murder two witnesses in the drugs trial of her boyfriend Steven Spaliviero.

She was described by the trial judge Steven Rothman, as "emaciated" and "emotionally immature" and the defence counsel referred to psychological reports which said that Lindström suffered from anorexia.

Her health has deteriorated further while serving her sentence and doctors now fear that her life may be in danger, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Sweden's ambassador to Australia, Sven-Olof Petersson, has now appealed to local authorities to work for the transfer of Lindström so that she can be closer to her family and receive the care that she needs, Svenska Dagbladet reports.
