Sweden set for sunny weekend weather

Swedes are gearing up unseasonably warm weather during the final weekend in May, with temperatures expected to reach as high as 30 degrees Celsius before dipping back down to the mid teens in the first days of June.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring high temperatures and sunny weather to much of the country – especially in the north, according to forecasters at Swedish meteorological agency SMHI.

“The warmth may vary quite a bit from one place to another, but it will likely be an area stretching from southern Norrland up toward Västerbotten and the coast of Norrland that will see the highest temperatures,” SMHI meteorologist Sten Laurin told the Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) newspaper.

While temperatures may approach 30 degrees in the far north, residents in the Stockholm region and central Sweden can expect temperatures closer to 25 degrees.

However, weekend revelers trekking out to the archipelago or boating elsewhere along Sweden’s coast should brace for somewhat cooler temperatures due to still-cool water temperatures.

But the blast of summer-warmth will likely be short lived, according to Laurin.

“By Wednesday it will probably be around 13 degrees and with scattered showers around Stockholm,” he told SvD.
