STOCKHOLM
The Ingmar Bergman International Theatre Festival
The Ingmar Bergman International Theatre Festival at Dramaten (The Royal Dramatic Theatre) is perhaps the largest Swedish cultural event of 2009.
The festival opens on Wednesday with its first major performance - "Kreten en Gefluister" (Cries and Whispers) with the Dutch company Toneelgroep.
Further performances include a Cate Blanchet produced reading of Ingmar Bergman’s "Through a Glass Darkly" directed by Michael Attenborough, "From the Lives of the Marionettes" and a marathon screening of "Scenes from a Marriage".
Dramaten's small stage will also host an exclusive French guest performance of Marguerite Duras' "La Douleur" (The War: A Memoir).
The festival will continue until June 6th and will round off with "The Obama Victory Speech Project" - an international theatre workshop led by Staffan Valdemar Holm.

Belen Maya (ESP)
The world renowned dance artist Belen Maya takes Södra Teatern's audience on a journey from classic flamenco through contemporary dance.
Maya is in Sweden to present her latest work "La voz de su amo".

Fritz's Corner and the big blue sea
Stockholm rock club Debaser kicks off its summer season with its "Stora havet" festival.
Together with Svenska Musikklubben, Debaser has put together the new pop festival with a selection of 11 choice acts plucked from the booming Swedish music scene.
One stage outside on the banks of Lake Mälaren, one inside under Slussen's nostalgic concrete construction - with some of Stockholm's best DJs thrown in for good measure.

Puppet theatre for little people
The Puppet Theatre Peekaboo on Södermalm is a worldwide pioneer in the field of theatre for the very youngest audience.
Until now their audience has been as young as from two-years-old - but a new performance to premiere this weekend aims to entertain babies from only six months old.
"Upp och Stå" (Stand Up) is a performance that addresses the fundamentals of communication, using hands, masks and an indecipherable language that engages with the intimate theatre audience.

Reality Revisited
This exhibition of photography from the Moderna Museet Collection will present a cross-section from the 1970s and discuss how photography then related to questions on form and content, subjectivity and objectivity, art and politics.
Works by Larry Clark, Ralph Gibson, Irina Ionesco, Duane Michals, Melissa Shook, Arthur Tress and others will be shown.

Live Action Gothenburg
This year's edition of Sweden's leading international performance art festival, Live Action Göteborg, will take place next weekend at the Museum of World Culture.
23 avant-garde artists will visit Sweden's second city from a wealth of countries as far and wide as Northern Ireland, Chile, Vietnam, Canada and many more with this year's country of honour being Singapore.
The purpose of the festival is to promote the field of performance art in Sweden and to demonstrate that world culture can signify an attitude, a way of living or thinking.

Elliot Murphy & the Normandy All Stars (US)
"Rock'n roll is my addiction and literature is my religion", US musician Elliot Murphy likes to confess in interviews.
Murphy is perhaps best known for his close friendship with Bruce Springsteen but also for his long term partnership with French guitar wizard Olivier Durand.
Next week they pay a visit to Gothenburg and Pustervik's bar stage.

Ghostface Killah (US)
Ghostface Killah was born Dennis Coles on Staten Island, NYC. In the 1990s he joined up to what became known as the Wu-Tang Clan.
Ghostface Killah is seen as one of the more successful of the plethora of solo careers to originate from the Clan and is in Sweden to promote a new album released on Def Jam records.

Funda Arar (Turkey)
Funda Arar is one of Turkey's largest stars. She is in Sweden by invitation to play three concerts and comes to Malmö on Sunday.
Her music draws influences from world music genres such as rock, pop, latin and Turkish. Her latest album Zammanin Eli was released in March and has since then topped the Turkish pop charts.
