Three vessels destroyed in harbour fire

Three leisure boats burned down in a dock fire at Ryssviken on Djurgården on Friday night. Nobody was injured in the fire, but billowing smoke could be seen on the horizon in many parts of Stockholm.

The fire started just before 8 pm on Friday, and quickly spread to nearby boats. The fire and rescue service was able to tow two boats to prevent the fire from spreading any further. A large area of Djurgården was sectioned off.

According to Dagens Nyheter newspaper, police also docked their own boats outside of Ryssviken to prevent other boats from entering the harbour.

“The is the worst I have seen during my ten years as harbour master,” Rasmus Berg told DN. He was called to the scene immediately after the fire started.

Authorities believe the fire started on a Princess 43 and then spread to the other vessels, but the cause of the fire still remains unknown.
