The man’s body, which was partially hidden beneath a pile of twigs, was found naked and badly beaten, leading police to launch a preliminary investigation into murder.

“We can say that the man was killed,” said Christer Nordström of the Uppsala police to the TT news agency.

Police announced early on Wednesday morning that they had made progress in identifying the victim, who lacked any identification when he was found, but Nordström refused to provide any details until the man’s identity had been confirmed.

And police still do not know if the man died near the Ekeby graveyard where he was found or if he was driven there after being killed.

The dead man was found by a woman out walking her dogs and police are now looking for other witnesses who may have seen something on the nearby County Route 290.

The body is currently being examined by forensic specialists ahead of a scheduled autopsy.
