Together with dance partner Annika Sjöö, man mountain Magnus Samuelsson fought off all comers over the three months of the show, finally dancing hot favourite Laila Bagge off the floor to claim the crown.
“For me this is something that is very difficult, I am proud of having come as far as we did,” Samuelsson said to the TV4 presenters after their win had been confirmed.
Each couple danced three different dances in the final.
Samuelsson and Sjöö danced a jive, showdance and slow foxtrot while Bagge and her partner, Tobias Wallin, dazzled with a paso doble, showdance and a tango.
While the jury, led by British choreographer Tony Irving, gave their verdict to Bagge and Wallin, Samuelsson and Sjöö received the people’s vote and won a resounding victory.
Samuelsson, who makes his living competing in the strongman competitions and has won the title of “World’s Strongest Man” on several occasions, has however impressed the jury over the course of the competition for his application and ability to move his bulk around the dance floor with guile.
Tony Irving famously declared that he was “in loooove!” after watching Samuelsson’s dance floor gyrations earlier in the tournament, which pairs celebrities with professional dancers and is one of Sweden’s most popular television shows.
