Sweden's big freeze set to stay
Motorists are being advised to exercise caution as meteorological agency SMHI forecasts that the weather in Sweden will remain bitterly cold for the rest of the working week.
A number of ice-related traffic accidents were reported across the country on Tuesday as temperatures dipped below freezing. Roads in the Örebro, Västra Götaland, Jönköping and Kronoberg areas were worst affected.
"Nighttime temperatures will be below zero all over the country for a while more. On Friday we will start to see a change with milder air pushing in over Sweden," meteorologist Alexandra Ohlsson told news agency TT.
On Tuesday a southbound truck tipped over on the E4 motorway north of Värnamo. There were also two truck accidents on national road 23, one near Åseda and the other outside Kråkenäsryd.
A number of accidents were also reported on roads north of Gothenburg, with slippery conditions causing havoc on the E6 motorway near Hisings Kärra.
A number of snow storms also hit the east coast over the course of the day. These are expected to have dispersed by Wednesday morning and will be followed by dry conditions across the country.
But the wet weather is set to return on Friday, with sleet and rain forecast for large parts of the country.
