Confidence in Fredrik Reinfeldt has climbed by more than 10 percentage points in the last 12 months, with a record high 52 percent of voters supporting the Swedish prime minister.

At the same time as Reinfeldt’s stock continues to climb in the eyes of the Swedish electorate, support for Social Democratic party leader Mona Sahlin continues to wane.

Support for Sahlin is down to around 30 percent compared with 38 percent last year, according to the Synovate polling firm.

Moreover, support for Centre Party leader Maud Olofsson has now overtaken Sahlin, with Olofsson receiving a vote of confidence from 33 percent of the electorate.

At the same time, Green Party mouthpiece Maria Wetterstrand and Liberal Party (Folkpartiet) leader Jan Björklund lie one to two percentage points behind Sahlin.

Overall, the confidence measures for each of the political parties represented in the Riksdag are as follows, with last year’s ratings in parentheses: Fredrik Reinfeldt (Moderate) 52 percent (40); Maud Olofsson (Centre) 33 percent (34); Mona Sahlin (Social Democrat) 30 percent (38); Maria Wetterstrand (Green) 29 percent (27); Jan Björklund (Liberal) 28 percent (28); Göran Hägglund (Christian Democrat) 22 percent (23); Peter Eriksson (Green) 22 percent (19); Lars Ohly (Left) 22 percent (18).

The figures, which were published on Wednesday in the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper, are taken from interviews with 1,011 people conducted between March 10th and 16th.

In the survey, respondents were asked, “The next question is about the confidence you have in the party leaders. Do you have very high, high, little, or no confidence for Fredrik Reinfeldt/Jan Björklund/Maud Olofsson/Göran Hägglund/Mona Sahlin/Lars Ohly/Peter Eriksson/Maria Wetterstrand?”
