The tourism board for the Australian state of Queensland has chosen two Germans as finalists for their "Best Job in the World" contest, where the winner will become caretakers on the tropical paradise Hamilton Island for six months.

The two Germans – Achim from the state of Baden-Württemberg and Mirjam from Bavaria – are among 50 other finalists handpicked from some 35,000 applicants.

If one of them wins, he or she will earn €75,000 to live in a luxury apartment and write weekly blogs about activities like snorkeling and hiking on the island starting on July 1.

The public relations initiative has apparently overwhelmed the Queensland tourism board. But the top 50 applicants sent the most creative introduction videos, officials said.

“Among them are items with action, adventure, comedy, animation and musical numbers that simply stuck in our memory,” Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said.

For their application videos, German finalist Mirjam appeared in a bikini, and Achim practiced diving in his bathtub.

The public can vote online for their favorite finalist and the last 11 will get a trip to the island for an adventure camp that will determine who wins a job that probably can't really be considered a job at all.
