Woman killed by train
06:49 CET+01:00
An elderly woman talking on her mobile phone was struck and killed by a high speed X-2000 train around 3.30pm on Tuesday afternoon at the Älvsjö station south of Stockholm.

“The woman was walking on a path between the tracks normally used only by staff. According to witnesses she was talking on a mobile phone and is thought to not have noticed that the train was coming,” said police spokesperson Lars Burman to the TT news agency.

Southbound rail traffic was halted for about an hour following the accident.

By 5pm, the first trains began moving again, although it took another hour or so before both SL commuter trains and the SJ national rail line were operating on schedule.
