'Voodoo pimp' has sentence reduced
A 36-year-old woman who used voodoo rituals to exercise control over prosititutes in the Gothenburg area has had her sentenced reduced to one year by the Court of Appeal.
Gothenburg District Court had initially prescribed a one and a half year sentence for aggravated pimping.
The appeal court instead found her guilty of the lesser charge of pimping.
A police investigation revealed that a number of Nigerian women were lured from their home country and kept in check by magic rituals and threats, Expressen reports.
The woman admitted to the court that she had helped four Nigerian women find accommodation and had taken them to an area in the city where prostitution is rife.
The court dismissed her claim that she had not accepted any money for her part in leading the woman into prostitution.
