Veteran and vampires claim top Swedish movie awards
Jan Troell's Everlasting Moments reaped five 'Golden Beetle' awards at Monday night's domestic film industry awards ceremony. Domestic vampire shocker Let The Right One In also received five awards.
Everlasting Moments (Maria Larssons Eviga Ögonblick), an emotive drama set in Malmö at the turn of the last century, took the prestigious Best Picture award, while Mikael Persbrandt and Maria Heiskanen won the respective awards for Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role.
Tomas Alfredson received the Best Director 'guldbagge' for Let The Right One In, a modern vampire drama set in suburban Stockholm.
Author John Ajvide Lindqvist, on whose novel the movie is based, received most votes in the Best Screenplay section from the seven voting members of the jury. Let The Right One In also earned Hoyte van Hoytema the Best Cinematography award.
Ruben Östlund's Involuntary (De Ofrivilliga), which was in the running for all major awards, was entirely overlooked by the jury.
Ang Lee's Lust, Caution was named Best Foreign Language Film, while veteran actress Harriet Andersson received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the board of the Swedish Film Institute.
