'Farmer' Prince moves south for studies

Sweden's Prince Carl Philip is to move south next month to begin a two-year course at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Alnarp, a small town just outside Malmö.

Staff at the university said they were delighted to welcome the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

"This is recogniton for the fact that the Royal Court highly rates the level of education we provide," faculty head Karin Warfinge told newspaper Sydsvenskan.

Earlier this year, the prince received a multi-million kronor inheritance - including a farm in Sörmland, south of Stockholm - from the former owner of the Ökenäs country estate.

It is perhaps with this in mind that the 29-year-old price decided to enroll for a two-year-course in Agricultural Technology.

It is not yet known where the Prince will live during his stay at Alnarp.

The Prince previously studied Graphic Design at Forsbergs school of design in Stockholm. He also recently launched a race driving career and hit the headlines in April when his Porsche spun out of control during a test run.
